What are the different style tongue jacks I can buy?
There are three types of marine jacks that you can purchase for boat trailers.
Single Wheel Swivel Side Mount Tongue Jack
Single wheel swivel jacks typically have a capacity of 1200lbs or less and are used on trailers with a capacity of 6000lbs and down. The swivel design lets the jack swing up and out of the way for towing and down for jacking. A pull pin holds the jack in position. Simply pull the pin to release the jack and allow it so swivel so it is parallel to the frame when not in use. The pin is spring loaded so it will automatically snap back in when the jack reaches the stow position. Venture Trailers uses side mount jacks that bolt to the side of trailer tongue. They have a manual crank from the side.
Dual Wheel Swivel Tongue Jack
Dual wheel jacks make maneuverability easy with larger boat and trailer packages verses a single wheel tongue jack. Dual wheel swivel jacks typically have a capacity of 1500lbs. The swivel design is the same as a single wheel tongue jack which lets the jack swing up and out of the way for towing and down for jacking.
Drop Leg Foot Jack
Foot jacks have a foot versus a wheel on the bottom. These styled jacks typically come with higher capacities, typically between 2000lbs to 2500lbs, as they are used on larger boat and trailer packages that you would not typically move around on your own. Their purpose is to extend up and down. The drop leg feature makes for fast leveling. Simply pull the pin on the leg to lower the inner leg with attached foot to the ground. Line up the holes on the inner and outer leg and reinsert the pin to lock the inner leg in the desired position.
