I can not find a vin# how can I identify my axle?
There are a few ways to identify what axle is on your trailer.
- Is it round tube or square tube?
- What size tubing is it?
We carry axles in the following tube sizes:
Square tubing |
ROUND TUBING |
1.5" X 1.5" | 2" |
2" X 2" | 2.75" |
2" X 3" |
- All axles will have a hub face, track measurement and/or brake flange measurement. Spring axles will have a spring center measurement. When you need to replace an axle it's very important to correctly measure your axle to ensure you are getting the correct replacement. It’s easier to measure your axle when the boat is off the trailer.
Hub Face/Track Measurement: The hub face is the outside of the hub where your rim will touch your hub. It’s best to remove your tire assemblies off your axles when measuring your hub face. Hook your tape measure on the outside of the hub where your rim touches your hub. Measure across your axle to the exact same spot on the other side. Do not measure to the back side of your hub.
Brake Flange Measurement: Hook your tape measure to the outside of the brake flange that is welded to your axle. Measure across your axle to the exact same spot on the other side. Do not measure to the back side of the brake flange.
Spring Center Measurement: For this measurement you will be measuring from the center of the leaf spring across the axle to the center of the leaf spring on the opposite side. It’s always helpful to have someone hold the tape measure for you. If you’re not able to recruit some help you can also get this measurement by holding your tape measure on the outside of one leaf spring and then measure to the inside of the opposite leaf spring. This will provide you with the same measurement if you were to measure center to center.
- Do you have a straight axle or one with a “V” drop center? Here are examples of straight axles and “V” drop center axles.
